Building Connections for Resilient Kids
We all face challenges in life. Resilience is our ability to weather those challenges. While resilience can be strengthened at any stage of life, childhood is the best time to build the basis of resilience.
Connections with adults can help children build resilience. All adults have a role in helping children build resilience by making positive connections with them.
We want to know – what do these connections look like to you?
Tell us about an adult who had a positive, lasting impact on your life when you were a child.
Create a short video or audio clip (maximum 2 minutes), piece of artwork, photograph, music, poem, written story – or any other creative expression to tell your story.
Share your video, audio, or a picture of your work using the form.
SUBMISSION DEADLINE: May 31, 2022
Share a story about any adult – a parent or family member (or your friend’s parent or family member), neighbour, coach, teacher, babysitter, or someone else – who had a positive and lasting impact on your life when you were a child. You might include details about:
- Who the adult was.
- What was going on in your life at the time.
- What they did.
- The positive impact they had on your life.
We welcome any creative approach to sharing your story. Here are some examples to inspire you:
- A video or audio clip. A short video (maximum 2 minutes) that can include you talking or performing, animation, etc.
- A piece of art. You can use any media you like – create your piece and send us a picture of the art as your submission with a short description of the piece. If you choose, include the media used and the inspiration for your piece.
- Music/song. You can submit an original song or musical arrangement (either played on video or an audio file). Include the instrument(s) used in the piece and the inspiration for your submission.
- Poetry. You can submit an original poem (presented in video, audio or a document form).
- Written story. You can write out your story and submit it as a document (or share a picture of it).
Submissions are open to everyone – you don’t have to be a certain age or live in Guelph, Wellington County, or Dufferin County.
May 31, 2022
Sharing your story about an adult who had a positive, lasting impact on your life helps other adults understand how to make similar connections with children in their lives.
A qualifying submission is a short video or audio clip, piece of artwork, photo, music, poem, written story etc. that tells a story about an adult that made a positive, lasting impact on your life when you were a child. Submissions that include profanity, racial slurs, sexual content, hate speech, violence, criminal behaviour, or anything else deemed inappropriate will be disqualified.
Submissions received will be used to create resources for the community to encourage all adults to build positive connections with the children in their lives. Submissions may be shared in various social media posts, on the Community Resilience Coalition website or partner websites, and in other ways that will help us to reach adults in our community.
All qualifying submissions will be featured on the Community Resilience Coalition website.
We are sorry to hear that you are having technical difficulties – one thing to check is the size and type of your file. We cannot accept files that are larger than 8mb so please make sure the file size meets the requirements. Also, submissions must be documents, video files, audio files, and images only.
